Programs

The following are all of the community outreach programs (listed in alphabetical order) offered by the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina, which includes YMCA branches in Forsyth, Davie, Stokes, Wilkes and Yadkin counties. Every program is offered free of charge. Programs are listed in alphabetical order. Please see individual programs for locations of availability.

 

Adult & ESL Literacy

Forsyth and Davie Counties

The YMCA Literacy Initiative assists adults who want to learn to read and write, or learn English as a Second Language.

 

Black Achievers

Forsyth County

The YMCA Black Achievers program is an academic achievement and career development initiative for high school youth and teens.

 

Family Literacy

Forsyth County

The YMCA Literacy Initiative offers El Nido (“The Nest”), a family literacy program that  provides book-based activities for children while their parents participate in ESL classes.

 

Achievers

Forsyth County

The Achievers program addresses the growing drop-out rate for Hispanic/Latinos and reaches out to ESL high school students.

 

Hispanic Family Mentoring

Forsyth County

Hispanic Family Mentoring assists Hispanic families by providing workshops about the North Carolina public school system, education issues and opportunities to be more involved in their children’s education.

 

Support Our Students

Yadkin, Forsyth and Davie Counties

SOS, a grant through the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, is a after-school program that targets youth that would otherwise be unsupervised during the critical after school hours.

 

Y Start

Stokes County

Y Start enhances the quality of gross motor skill development for children ages 2 to 5 (pre-K) by modeling fitness program activities for childcare providers to adopt into their curriculum.

 

Y on Wheels

Wilkes County

Y on Wheels is a childhood obesity prevention program for under-served children in Wilkes County.

 

Y Wired

Forsyth County

YWired is a free Computer Basics program for those over 50 years old.
